Dentists in the South Burnett are being invited to apply for funding to extend their trading hours.

The Darling Downs South West Queensland Medicare Local contacted dental practices this week with the news that after hours funding is available on a short trial basis to help improve services in the community.

The move by the Federal Government body coincides with moves by the local hospital board to also improve dental services in the region.

Late last year, Darling Downs Hospital and Health Board chairman Mike Horan said the Board was looking for innovative ways to partner with private dentists throughout the region to cut waiting lists.

He said a public / private partnership model being trialled in Inglewood could be introduced to Kingaroy and Murgon.
