Nanango’s FFA side beat Toowoomba premier league team Gatton 2-0 at Clive Berghofer Stadium on Saturday night.

Nanango will now go on to the next round against Willowburn, last year’s grand finalists in the Toowoomba Premier League.

In a bit of a scrappy contest, Nanango scored in the first half through a penalty taken by Kieran Mangan.

The second goal came in the second half through Thomas Mangan.

But a win is a win, and the team was pleased with the outcome.

“We all enjoyed the experience of playing in our first FFA Cup match and look forward to playing a very strong Willowburn side in a fortnight,” team captain Damien Walters said.

In the other match of the day, Willowburn beat last year’s premiers USQ 6-3.

The winner of the Nanango versus Willowburn match will take on the SWQ Thunder NPL side.

Although a date or venue for the Nanango versus Willowburn class has not yet been decided, there is a possibility the match could be played in Kingaroy on Saturday, March 15, which would be a huge boost for the game in our region.

UPDATE March 5: The match between Nanango and Willowburn will be played on March 15 at Kingaroy Senior Soccer Club; 5:00pm kick-off
