Gympie’s Tim Atkin raced home to win back-to-back Queensland Production Sedan Titles on Saturday night at the Lucas Oil Kingaroy Speedway.

After a brilliant battle with fellow Gympie flyer Kristian Walker, Atkin swept to the lead in the closing stages to win the Queensland championship.

Walker held onto second and Brad Hutchison, from Dubbo, finished third after battling through from the B Main in an amazing drive.

Earlier in the night, Victorian Stephen Laidlaw broke Atkin’s existing lap record, lowering the mark to 17.256 seconds.

Darren Kane continued his dominance of the Late Model division with another win the Boettcher Race Parts Thunder Series. Sydneysiders Nathan Disney and Ben Nicastri took out second and third.

AMCA Nationals returned to the South Burnett after a couple of seasons lay off and put on some excellent racing.

On his way to a great feature race win, Nathan Durstan also smashed the lap record by 0.8 seconds, setting a new time of 16.021 seconds (Dean Ballard’s record of 16.8 had stood since November 2010). Grafton’s Nick Stubbs finished second and Matt Enders was third.

Australian champion Michael Learoyd showed why he is the best in the business after capturing another win in the Junior Sedan feature race.

Kingaroy’s Hayden Jones finished second after putting in a great drive in the final to finish just ahead of Carter Armstrong.

The club would once again like to thank all the volunteers officials and all the drivers for their continued support and look forward to seeing everyone back for our next race meeting on April 5.

We would also like to once again thank Sunshine Mitre 10, Swickers Kingaroy, Sun Pork and Barkers Creek Pork for their support of the Happy Kids program.

Entries for the Happy Kids colouring competition must be dropped into the Commonwealth Bank Kingaroy by Friday to be in the running to win family passes to the next race meeting.
