About 10 families took advantage of the annual open day at the 135 Australian Cadet Unit at Wondai on Sunday to allow would-be cadets and their parents to find out more about the Army Cadets.

Captain Peter Schneidewin said the visitors had the chance to chat to officers and current cadets as well as inspect displays.

Stands highlighted field equipment, ration packs, camouflage and concealment gear and communication tools.

Cadets must be aged between 12 1/2 and 17 to join.

135 ACU parades every second Sunday at the 25/49 RQR army base in Wondai.

There are currently 20 cadets in the unit.

Five of them have recently been promoted after completing courses and panel interviews.

They were presented with their new ranks at a parade on Saturday.

The Wondai unit now has two new Lance Corporals, two new Corporals and a new Sergeant.
