New centre line markings on the D’Aguilar Highway passing lanes at Coolabunia

February 19, 2014

New wide centre line markings being introduced by the Department of Transport and Main Roads have made their first appearance in the South Burnett at Coolabunia.

The new line markings have been made on the recently completed overtaking lanes on the D’Aguilar Highway south of Kingaroy, near the Coolabunia Saleyards.

Kingaroy Police said today the DTMR had marked the centre lines on this stretch of road to help reduce the potential for head-on crashes.

The centre lines provide for a wider, safer gap between oncoming vehicles.

However the same rules apply for overtaking.

Drivers can only overtake where there are broken lines, or a broken line to the left of a continuous line.

Two continuous lines constitute double lines and may not be crossed.

Similar centre line markings can be seen on sections of the Bruce Highway

Police have advised motorists to keep an eye out for this new centre line marking and to familiarise themselves with it.
