A 15-year-old Murgon youth has been charged with a string of offences after a fire was lit inside a hairdressing salon in Gore Street this morning.

The boy has been charged with nine offences, including break and enter, attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle, assaulting police, assault occasioning bodily harm and wilful damage.

He will appear in Murgon Children’s Court at a later date.

Police will allege the boy lit the fire inside the salon after stealing several items from the business.

A neighbour noticed smoke coming from the building about 7:00am and called the fire brigade.

Firefighters arrived on scene soon afterwards and wore breathing apparatus to access the small fire.

They had the flames extinguished by 7:21am.

A fire brigade spokesperson said there was no structural damage to the building but the building required ventilation to clear the smoke.
