A new-look committee will be guiding community projects in Yarraman following the Annual General Meeting of the Yarraman Community Council held on Wednesday night.
New president is retired Yarraman resident Murray McGee.
Secretary is Jan Bagdonas, treasurer Di McGee, and vice-president Lou Trevena.
Mr McGee told southburnett.com.au he was a little disappointed with the roll-up for the AGM as there was only about a dozen people present, however he said he was hopeful things would improve.
“It’a a whole new committee and we are going to move in a different direction,” Mr McGee said.
He said the new Community Council would be concentrating on plans to improve the community.
“We want to improve the lot of the Yarraman people, basically,” he said.
Although it was too early to spell out any specific plans one of the things already identified was the need to improve the use of the Rail Trail.
He said horse riders and bike riders already used the trail at Yarraman but he believed Blackbutt was doing a better job of promoting it.
Mr McGee said the Yarraman Community Council would have a “marketing division” that would work on events in conjunction with the Yarraman Progress Association.
It also hoped funding could be organised to come through the Community Council.
The group would also be trying to put pressure on Toowoomba Regional Council to provide more help to the town.
The next meeting of the Yarraman Community Council – the first meeting under the new committee – will be held at the Yarraman Community Hall on February 19.
