A lightning strike at the height of yesterday afternoon’s wild storms has been blamed for a fire which has burned out between 400 and 500ha at Ironpot.
The fire broke out in the vicinity of Ironpot and Jumma roads about 4:00pm.
An Emergency Services spokesperson said a Triple 0 caller alerted authorities after spotting a grass fire “burning in the distance”.
About 13 fire crews attended the scene, including the emergency strike team currently based in Kingaroy.
Waterbombing aircraft were also called in to assist.
Firefighters worked on the fire throughout the night, putting in firebreaks and doing backburning.
No homes were under threat.
At 10:30am this morning, the fire was reported to be “smouldering” within containment lines, with no active flames.
Firefighters and the landholder were patrolling to ensure the area was now safe.
