Wondai music teacher Jane Iszlaub sprinted down the stairs at the Hotel Cecil to collect $2000 worth of Wondai Dollars at this evening’s Wondai Christmas Carnival.

Jane put her speed to the test when she heard her name called as part of the Wondai Chamber of Commerce Christmas Shopping promotion.

She had 60 seconds to reach the stage to claim her prize, but the problem was she was playing with the Wondai and District Town Band up on the balcony of the Hotel Cecil.

Winners have to be present at the draw and must claim the prize within a minute.

The first ticket drawn out  was Maria Beer, from Greenview, but as Maria was not at the carnival she was given the second prize of $700 of Wondai Dollars.

South Burnett councillor Ros Heit, who then pulled out the winning ticket, said Jane made it in time and was ecstatic with her win.

The draw is always the highlight of Wondai’s traditional Christmas Eve carnival.

The festival is a major fundraiser for the Wondai Agricultural, Pastoral and Industrial Society (better known as the Wondai Show Society).
