It will be a sad Christmas for two Gympie tourists who lost their 4WD, caravan and Christmas presents in a blaze on the Bunya Highway near Kumbia on Friday afternoon.
The fire is believed to have started in the van and then spread to the towing vehicle after the couple pulled over.
Firefighters were called to the scene but could do nothing to save the couple’s possessions.
No one was hurt in the incident however the couple’s pet cat died in the fire.
Local residents rallied to assist the couple with donations of clothing and other items after their plight was highlighted on social media.
The couple are now believed to be heading back home in a rented vehicle.
