Rural brigades were called to a small grass fire in Sutherland Drive, Taromeo, this morning.
Five crews attended the fire at 10:10am and had the main area extinguished less than 30 minutes later.
About 20 acres were burned out.
At one stage smoke was near a house but an Emergency Services spokesperson said no buildings were under threat.
Taromeo Rural Brigade remained on the scene to do mopping up.
