A 40-year-old Murgon man has been charged with three counts of breaching a domestic violence order, and one count of wilful damage, after he allegedly threatened to burn down a woman’s house.
Steven Schultz entered no plea when he appeared in Kingaroy Magistrates Court this afternoon at a bail hearing.
Police Prosecutor Sgt Wayne Bushell opposed bail, saying Schultz had only been in Queensland for six months and these were his sixth breaches.
Magistrate Mark Bucknall said Schultz was on bail when he allegedly committed these offences.
He said police had alleged Schultz had bashed on the back door of the woman’s house, smashed a window and, after threatening to burn down the house, had held a lighter against the woodwork.
The woman and her intellectually disabled daughter were in the home at the time.
Magistrate Bucknall said Schultz had demonstrated a capacity to carry out a threat.
“After threatening to do it, he went to her house and attempted to burn it down,” he said.
He said Schultz was an unacceptable risk of committing further offences and to the welfare of the aggrieved woman.
Bail was refused and he was remanded in custody to reappear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on December 19. Outstanding charges from Murgon Court were also transferred to this date.
