Flames scorch bushland along Shellytop Road at Durong

Ten fire crews – both rural and urban – are fighting a large grass fire in the vicinity of McLean Road at Durong South.

The fire, which escaped from a controlled burn, broke out about 2:00pm.

It then travelled in a north-easterly direction towards Shellytop Road.

Firefighters conducted backburns to protect properties in the area.

An Emergency Services spokesman said the blaze was causing a large amount of smoke in the area.

Earlier today, fire crews were also called to Coverty Road and Wolff Road, Coverty; J Hunters Road at Ballogie; and Mt McEuen Rd, Mt McEuen.

A 5:30pm, a fire was reported burning near the Wide Bay Highway at Kinbombi.
