November 19, 2013

by Doug Hutcheson

The Kingaroy Writers Association held a workshop on Tuesday, November 19.

We had 12 members present.

The 2013 KWA book is now for sale at $10 per copy.

The Christmas break-up will be at the Kingaroy RSL on Tuesday, December 3, starting 11:30am. Financial members will each be given $10 toward the cost of their meals. Bring a Secret Santa gift to the value of no more than $5. There will be a lucky door prize, games and activities. Homework is to write a 100 word story or poem on a Christmas theme.

We presented our epigrams and unusual words for the day, including such gems as “tchotchke”, “hemistich”, “condign” and “sept”.

We presented our homework, with a break for smoko at 10:30am.

We had a lively discussion about how much plot and character development to prepare before starting to write. The day ended with a short writing exercise.

Our next meeting is on Tuesday, January 21, 2014.

Homework for that meeting is to write about 1000 words on the topic “Pets”, to invent an epigram about “Pets” (yes, the same topic for both) and to find an unusual word and its meaning.

The Kingaroy Writers Association meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at the Uniting Church hall, corner Alford and Youngman streets, Kingaroy.

Meetings start at 9:30am and we warmly welcome visitors.
