Superbly solo … Amy James arrived in style at the Kingaroy State High School formal
Portable cover … an umbrella came in handy

The clouds threatened – and drizzle started to fall – but even the threat of a thunderstorm couldn’t dampen spirits at the Kingaroy State High School Year 12 formal on Thursday night.

Fortunately Kingaroy was only on the edge of the storm that whipped areas to the west so the students could show off their fashions and still stay dry.

Police and SES blocked off Glendon Street outside the Kingaroy Town Hall for the big night.

The students – who will officially finish school tomorrow – arrived in everything from Mustangs and Monaros to a Mini Moke, a farm ute and a classic Rolls Royce.

Parents and friends lined the street and packed the Town Hall forecourt to catch a glimpse as they ran a gauntlet of photographers.
