Smoke haze around Kingaroy this afternoon has come from a fire burning in the Barakula State Forest, 45km north of Chinchilla.

The fire was first reported on Tuesday at 10:00am and has been burning since then, creating a lot of smoke.

An Emergency Services spokesman said forestry personnel were on the scene, and backburning had taken place.

Fire crews are monitoring the blaze and will be on site overnight.

Barakula State Forest is the largest State Forest in the Southern Hemisphere and supplies much of Queensland’s cypress pine timber.
