Ricko Coleman wants his children to go to school every day so they can have a better life than he and his partner Lesley Bell have had.

It’s every parent’s wish for their children.

Ricko can see the value in school allowing them to get the best possible job they enjoy and travelling to wherever they want to live.

“School makes them ready for the outside world,” Ricko said.

“They can always come home if they want to.”

Ricko left school in Year 8 but made up for it through reading and TAFE courses.

Lesley was a classroom mentor at her children’s school and now works at Ny-ku Byun aged care home in Cherbourg.

Together, she and Ricko have been named Cherbourg State School’s Parents of the Month for September because of the encouragement and moral support they give their children and others to do the best they can in class.

Ricko said his own children loved school.

“It’s like they don’t like holidays,” he said.
