South Burnett and Cherbourg On ShowOctober 2, 2013

Tourists and local residents could be $500 richer by visiting one of the participating events planned as part of South Burnett and Cherbourg on Show this weekend.

“Council has put a $500 prize towards this event to encourage tourists to the region and encourage locals to experience our own attractions,” South Burnett Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said.

“The South Burnett and Cherbourg regions have so much to offer with our art, heritage, indigenous culture, food and wine.

“Council is also encouraging locals to have a ‘staycation’ over the weekend. There is so much happening in our own backyards that locals should consider a vacation in the region.

“People can enter the draw to win $500 in South Burnett and Cherbourg dollars at any of the participating events this weekend.

“The prize can be used by a tourist to have a vacation in the region or for a local to have a ‘staycation’ and discover more of what the South Burnett has to offer.

“The long weekend is an excellent opportunity to boost business in the region. It showcases why we all love to live here.”

Cr Kathy Duff said the line-up of events over the weekend is extensive.

“The hardest part is trying to work out which events to attend, as you simply may not be able to get to them all,” she said.

“There is also much diversity in the events on offer. For those that are sporty and adventurous there is the Inland Fishing Competition at Yallakool or the King of the Park 4WD Challenge at Manar Park.

“We have devised an art trail which showcases many of our local artists. There is also lots for families to discover, including a full working heritage display at the Dairy Museum in Murgon.

“To help people decide which events to attend we have put together some suggested trails under general interests which include ‘Arty Party’, ‘Culture and Heritage’, ‘Family Fun’, ‘Action a Plenty’ and ‘Wine and Dine’.”

South Burnett and Cherbourg on Show begins on Friday, October 4, and continues over the long weekend until Monday,  October 7.
