A candlelight vigil was held at Yarraman Cemetery at dusk this evening to remember Senior Sergeant Perry Irwin, who was killed while on duty near Caboolture 10 years ago.
Police from all stations in the district, emergency services personnel and representatives from local organisations attended the graveside service, which was led by police chaplain, the Rev John Selwood.
A message from Police Commissioner Ian Stewart was read to the gathering and floral tributes laid.
Senior Sergeant Lance Guteridge, the officer-in-charge of Murgon station, lit the memorial candle.
A candle was also lit for every decade when a Queensland police officer has died on duty since 1861; all 140 officers were named.
The vigil was organised as part of National Police Remembrance Day commemorations in the South Burnett.
Snr Sgt Irwin served for almost a decade as the officer at Yarraman Police Station.
Commemorations will continue tomorrow (September 27) with a Memorial Service for all fallen police officers held at Our Lady of Dolours Catholic Church in Yarraman from 3:00pm.
