National Police Remembrance Day – which remembers the 140 Queensland police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty – will be marked in the South Burnett this year with two special commemorations in Yarraman.

On Thursday, September 26, a candlelight vigil will be held at the Yarraman Cemetery from 6:00pm.

The vigil will be held at the grave of Senior Sergeant Perry Irwin who was ambushed and killed by a violent criminal near Caboolture 10 years ago.

Snr Sgt Perry served for almost a decade as the officer at Yarraman Police Station and was much respected by the local community.

On Friday, September 27, a Memorial Service for all fallen police officers will take place at Our Lady of Dolours Catholic Church, in Watson Street, from 3:00pm.

For more information about either commemoration, contact Senior Sergeant Lance Guteridge at Murgon Police on (07) 4168-1211.
