Gympie Regional Council has been given $75,455 from the State Government to help manage wild dogs in the region.

Agriculture Minister John McVeigh said funding had been offered to councils in southern, central and north-western Queensland to target wild dogs in pastoral and semi-rural areas.

“There was a strong response to this offer, underlining how serious local governments and their communities are taking this problem,” Mr McVeigh said.

The Gympie council will use the grant to employ a contractor to work with landholders on trapping.

The State Government has also allocated $175,000 to AgForce under the same program.
