A truck driver was lucky to escape serious injuries after a semi-trailer carrying concrete pipes overturned on the Burnett Highway about 2km north of Goomeri yesterday afternoon.
The 38-year-old man, from Townsville, was briefly trapped in the vehicle before being cut free from the wrecked cabin by the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service.
He was transported by ambulance to Kingaroy Hospital for treatment for bruising to his shoulder.
Sgt Warren Lohmann, from Goomeri Police, said the driver told police he was rounding a bend when a ute travelling in the opposite direction crossed double lines; he veered left to avoid a collision but lost control and overturned.
The truck was travelling northwards along the highway at the time.
The incident occurred about 4:30pm.
Sgt Lohmann said the Burnett Highway was closed for periods while emergency services personnel were at the scene, and then re-opened to one lane before being closed again to allow the pipes and truck to be salvaged.
The road was fully cleared about 12:45am this morning.
Sgt Lohmann said he would like to thank the QFRS, Queensland Ambulance Service and the SES for their assistance at the scene.
