A cloudburst drenched players and fans at St Mary’s Oval on Saturday afternoon
South Burnett makes a break

July 25, 2013

The South Burnett Thrashers’ hopes of making in into the finals of the B Grade Darling Downs Rugby Union competition took a big hit in the rain in Kingaroy on Saturday.

Fans had hoped that the home game against Dalby – which had been swapped earlier in the year – would be a repeat of the Thrashers earlier success against the Wheatmen, but it was not to be.

In May, they defeated  Dalby 19-13 under lights at Dalby.

But this time around, the Wheatmen outclassed the Thrashers, with the final score 29-5.

It has been the South Burnett’s best year in B Grade and there is still a chance they could make the final five – but it will depend on how other teams play, as well as their own successes.

The Thrashers have another home game coming up in Round 16 this weekend, against USQ Saints who they also defeated earlier in the season.

Fans wanting to cheer on the South Burnett side should be at St Mary’s Oval from 1:30pm.

After this , there are two more rounds of fixtures left.

The South Burnett will face Roma (in Roma) and the Condamine Cods in Kingaroy.
