A Federal Government grants program to help the tourism industry has opened for applications.
Federal Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss urged local tourism businesses in the South Burnett to find out more about the grants.
“The tourism industry is an important part of Wide Bay’s economy,” Mr Truss said.
“Local hotels, restaurants and cafes and tour operators rely on tourism to provide jobs, so it is important that the Federal Government plays its part to assist the industry’s growth and sustainability, especially in these tough economic times.”
The Tourism Industry Regional Development Fund grants provide matched funding on a dollar-for-dollar basis for amounts between $50,000 and $250,000 (GST exclusive) for projects across three separate streams:
- Quality improvement of existing tourism products or services;
- Development of innovative new tourism experiences; or
- Increasing tourism labour supply and quality through “Labour & Skills Enhance” projects.
Funding of $7.5 million is available for Round 2 quality improvement and innovation projects, with a further $2.1 million in Round 2 for Labour & Skills Enhance projects.
Further information is available by telephoning (02) 6243-7604 or online.
Applications for funding close on August 7, 2013.
