A call has gone out to local trainees and apprentices to take part in the regional WorldSkills competition next month.
On August 13, the Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE’s Toowoomba Campus will host the Southern Queensland regional division of the skills and trade competition for young apprentices, trainees and skills professionals.
SQIT Faculty Director Kylie Lee has put the call out for trade professionals from cookery to cabinetmaking and more to take part in the day-long industry-specific competition, which could see them progress to compete on the national and international stages.
“The last international WorldSkills competition in Germany saw our Skillaroos (Australian WorldSkills team) bring home one gold, two silver and one bronze. With 45 different trade areas to compete in, now’s the time to get involved for the next round,” Ms Lee said.
Most of the 2013 WorldSkills competitions will be held on SQIT Open Day on August 13; hair and beauty competitions will be held on September 8.
Medallists from the day will be eligible to compete at the WorldSkills Australia national competition to be held in Perth in 2014.
To be eligible for the 2013 Regional Competition, competitors must be born on or after January 1, 1990 and have filled out an official WorldSkills Australia regional application form.
