Early morning travellers may face some delays on the D’Aguilar Highway on Thursday, Friday and Saturday as a new 800 tonne hydraulic excavator makes its way from the Port of Brisbane to Meandu coal mine.

Stanwell Asset Manager Jim Young told this evening’s KCCI Meet’n’Greet that the Hitachi EX8000 would be carried in pieces on between 20 to 30 trucks, starting at 5:00am on Thursday morning.

When assembled, it will be the largest excavator in Queensland and will be able to shift about 75 tonnes in each scoop of its bucket.

It will take about 10 weeks to assemble on-site at the mine.
