July 11, 2013
It was a big night for the South Burnett Speedway Club … but especially so for club members Josh Arthur and Gavin Fletcher.
At the club’s annual awards night held on Saturday, Josh, from Hervey Bay, picked up the Champion of Champions Shield and also went home with the Pearl Scott Memorial Trophy and the Street Sedans Club Championship Trophy after a dominating season in street sedans, including winning the 2012-13 Queensland title.
Modified productions driver Gavin Fletcher was presented with the Barron Family Champion of Champions trophy – and a cheque for $1000 – for the driver that scored the most points at all Kingaroy meetings for the season.
He also won the Jack Hams Memorial Shield for the highest yearly point score in modified productions and the Modified Productions Club Championship trophy.
More than 100 people packed into the Kingaroy RSL to enjoy dinner, live music and dancing and to watch the award presentations.
Every club member who raced in any category was given a plaque showing their final club points position at the end of the club’s year.
The South Burnett Speedway Club will be hoping for a better season when racing resumes later this year; two of its 2012 meetings, including the important three-day Kings Royal Australia Day event – had to be cancelled because of bad weather.
The club’s next big event will be a Monster Trucks night and demolition derby at the Kingaroy Speedway track on September 14.
