Chris “Corky” Corcoran with Les Porter and the “new” peanut car for this year’s Endeavour Rally

July 8, 2013

He’s had to borrow his wife’s Fairlane, but nothing’s going to stop Kingaroy’s Les Porter from taking part in this year’s Endeavour Rally.

The annual fundraiser begins in Caloundra next Saturday,  the start of an eight-day trek north to Port Douglas.

The rally’s first night is Kingaroy, and the drivers will be enjoying dinner at Kingaroy Town Hall on Saturday night and breakfast at the Endeavour’s Kingaroy Kitchen at 6:30am next morning before heading off to Theodore.

Les had originally hoped to be driving a Nissan Patrol in the event but some last-minute hitches has made this impossible.

He’s promised his wife he’ll bring back the Fairlane without any scratches!

Les will be accompanied on the trek by his sisters Phyllis Williams, from Monto, and Heather Anderson, from Kingaroy.

However, they will also have another special passenger on board, Greg Brown, from Kingaroy. Greg works for Endeavour in Kingaroy.

“It’s exciting that we’re taking an Endeavour client along with us,” Les said.

CROW-FM has been helping Les in his fund-raising efforts over the past two weekends, auctioning seven donated items on air during the station’s Saturday morning “Garage Sale”.

Les rolled up to the station in Wondai this morning to find out how much had been raised … an amazing $1080.

His efforts have impressed CROW-FM brekkie announcer Corky, who suggested that next year he’d like to station’s red ute in the rally.
