Kingaroy Police are reminding South Burnett residents that detecting and preventing drink-driving offences is one of the major priorities for local police.

In the last two weeks of May this year, Kingaroy Police conducted more than 400 breath tests.

Annual statistics show that drink-driving remains one of the major contributing factors to serious motor vehicle crashes in Queensland.

“Studies have shown that in at least 25 per cent of fatal road crashes, alcohol is a factor,” Senior Constable Chris Watson, an 18-year veteran of the Traffic Branch, said.

“So as you can imagine we are very keen to get these offenders off the road.

“Quite often we detect drink drivers offending at times and in places where they thought they never would get caught.

“It’s no surprise to us when we catch them but it’s always a very big surprise to them.

“There are few acts more irresponsible than drink-driving or allowing another to drink drive.”
