South Burnett Regional Council has advised that a section of Gayndah-Hivesville Road at Hivesville will be closed for four days from June 18 to allow assessment of the Sunday Creek Bridge.

The closure will be between the junction at Wondai-Proston Road and Cridlands Road.

A detour will be in place which will direct traffic from Gayndah-Hivesville Road via Wondai-Proston Road, then Proston-Abbeywood Road and Cridlands Road back to Gayndah-Hivesville Road.

Signage will be in place to identify the detour route.

The nature of the work is a geotechnical assessment of Sunday Creek Bridge which involves a drilling rig coring boreholes from the deck of the bridge as part of the bridge replacement project.

A Council spokesman said the road closure was essential for undertaking the assessment work.

“We understand that this temporary closure will inconvenience residents but it is the only arrangement that will enable the assessment works to be completed,” the spokesman said.

“Council appreciates the patience and co-operation of residents on this road.”

UPDATED June 18: Council advised today that this road closure will be from June 18, not July 18 as advised. We have updated the original article to reflect this.
