The 20-year-old painting by artist June McCotter

June 14, 2013

Wondai Regional Art Gallery’s June exhibition shines a spotlight on “Our Inner Creativity” with a range of works by popular Sunshine Coast artists.

The exhibition, in the Alison Iszlaub Gallery, was officially opened last week by … Alison Iszlaub, the former curator of the Wondai Gallery and a friend of many of the artists exhibiting.

There are works in acrylics, oils and watercolours by June McCotter, Fiona Groom, Carole Ronay, Dawn Cambal, Paulette Cauley, Yuki Cheetham, Gillian Smith and Yvonne Thompson.

The artists are all linked to June McCotter’s “Heart of the Art” gallery at The Big Pineapple at Woombye.

“I’ve known June for about 20 years, to the early days of the gallery at the roundabout,” Alison told the opening night crowd.

And just to prove it, she produced a painting from her private collection created by June about 20 years ago.

The artwork, a still life, also demonstrated how June’s style has changed over the years.

The exhibition will remain on show at the Wondai Gallery from 10:00am to 4:00pm daily until the end of the month. Entrance is free.
