St Mary’s senior netball team … will compete in Townsville

June 13, 2013

In the upcoming school holidays, St Mary’s Catholic College’s senior netball team will head to Townsville to defend their divisional title.

Last year, St Mary’s took out their divisional final despite being the smallest school in the annual QISSN (Queensland Independent Secondary Schools Netball) Competition.

QISSN is an annual netball carnival held mid-year which attracts 48 of Queensland’s finest independent secondary school netball teams.

Each year the carnival is hosted by a different school in a different location. The carnival is a great way for netball teams to develop stronger skills, meet new people and have fun playing the sport they love.

The 2013 QISSN Carnival will be held in Townsville and is hosted by Ryan Catholic College.

The St Mary’s team has been preparing for the challenge for most of the year, taking part in local netball competitions to hone their skills.

College principal Mr Michael Nayler said he was extremely proud of the netballers’ achievements and looked forward to supporting them at their competition in Townsville.

Matthew Harch .. also off to Townsville

Matthew Harch, a talented St Mary’s rugby league player, will join the Xavier College, Hervey Bay, Senior Rugby League team to help build up their numbers in the Confraternity Rugby League shield.

This competition, which will be held in Townsville at the same time, also attracts Queensland’s top independent rugby league schools.

Mr Nayler said he was very pleased that Matthew would get to showcase his talent at this level as he has had five past students who competed at Confraternity go on to careers in the NRL.
