Sue Currie – curator of the Kilkivan and District Historical Society Museum since 1996 – has been awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in the 2013 Queen’s Birthday Honours List announced today.

Mrs Currie, wife of former Kilkivan Shire CEO Ray Currie, was rewarded for her service to the community of Kilkivan.

She was Kilkivan Shire’s Citizen of the Year in 2005.

Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service Board chairman – and former Queensland MP – Mike Horan has been made a Member of the General Division of the Order of Australia (AM).

Mr Horan was rewarded for significant service to the Parliament of Queensland, and to the community of the Darling Downs.

He represented Toowoomba South in the Queensland Parliament from 1991-2012, and was leader of the National Party and Opposition Leader from 2001-2003 and Health Minister from 1996-1998.

Mr Horan has also been chairman of Downs Rugby since 2013 and a Board member since 2009.

Other people honoured today who would be well-known to many South Burnett residents include show ring announcer Angus Lane.

Mr Lane, from Highfields, was made an OAM for his service to agricultural shows.

He has been a show ring announcer at Royal, local, regional and State agricultural shows since 1980.

Former QCWA president Elvia Slack, from Gayndah, was also made an OAM for service to the community of Gayndah.

Mrs Slack has been an active member of the QCWA for 40 years; as well as secretary/treasurer UGA and then secretary, AgForce, for approximately 10 years up to 2010.
