June 3, 2013

Blackbutt will be going all out again this year to celebrate Queensland Week with a Family Fun Day of activities next Sunday (June 9).

The Our Bloomin’ Beautiful Blackbutt Queensland Week Celebration, organised by Friends of Cultcha, has received a grant of $7200 from the State Government to make the day a reality.

It will kick off with a Poets Breakfast at 8:00am at the Blackbutt Memorial Hall.

At 9:00am, the Queensland Flag will be officially raised and the “Proclamation of Queensland” will be read.

There’ll be live music from the Windy City Jazzmen from 10:00am to 2:00pm.

Lunch (free soup and damper) will be served from 11:30am to 1:30pm at the Blackbutt Memorial Hall.

At 2:15pm, the Queensland Day prizes and awards will be announced.

There will also be markets running from 8:00am to 4:00pm, and children’s rides and activities, including a super slide, merry-go-round, jumping castle, circus school and face-painting.

There’ll be displays by the Blackbutt and District Heritage and Tourism Association, the Timbertowns Digital Art and Photography Association, Blackbutt SES, Taromeo Rural Fire Brigade and the Queensland Ambulance Service.

NB. Just in case you didn’t know … Queensland Week marks the State’s official separation from New South Wales on June 6, 1859 (see video below).
