The South Burnett Saints were just two goals away from victory in their home match against 2012 premiers Toowoomba at the weekend.

The Toowoomba Tigers, who are going for their fourth premiership in a row, were held to just 78 points by the competition newcomers at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy.

The final score was Toowoomba 10.18 (78) to South Burnett 9.14 (68).

Brad Edwards was on target for the Saints, booting home four goals.

Other goals were kicked by Ty Snow (2), Paul Pressnell, Dylan Bowater and Lucas Walsh.

Best on the paddock for the South Burnett were Kyall Shepherd, Alexander Totton, Adam Bowater, Jeffrey Trezise, Aidan Brennan and Brad Edwards.

The Saints had a strong first quarter, and were ahead at the break.

All teams have a day off next Saturday due to the long weekend.

The Saints’ next game will be against the Chinchilla Suns at the Chinchilla Showgrounds on June 15.
