Growing The Burnett Inc has a problem …. they started a 10-week, part-time training course for budding horticulturalists in Memerambi on Monday which could lead to jobs for everybody who takes part. But while they already have seven trainees on board, they still have room for five more.
The course is open to any resident of the South Burnett and it’s completely free because it’s being funded by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations through the Local Employment Coordinator Flexible Funding Pool.
The course combines a Certificate II in Horticulture with practical, hands-on farm work experience under the supervision of experienced trainers and mentors.
“If you’re looking for work in the agriculture or horticulture industry or just want to update your skills, then this course is for you,” project leader Brian Jarvis said.
“Our course trainers are happy to assist students to gain the necessary horticulture and agricultural skills for employment and self-employment outcomes at the end of the course.”
Participants take part in the program from Mondays to Wednesdays over 10 weeks at the group’s Red Earth Farm on the Bunya Highway at Memerambi, immediately next to the Memerambi housing estate.
