Up-and-coming country music singer Jess Holland will be performing in Kingaroy next month as part of a statewide tour.
Jess may be a new name but she’s been around for some time; she’s a two-time Toyota Star Maker finalist (2011 and 2013) and was the 2011 Voice of Urban Country at the Urban Country Music Festival.
The Mudgee-born singer has timed her Queensland tour to coincide with the release of a new single, “Cigarettes and Whisky”
“It’s the first time I’ve ever toured on my own,” she said.
“In past when I’ve toured I’ve always taken the band, but in this case it’s very different. Quite literally, this is me putting everything I need in the car, hitting the road, and then heading up the coast and out west.
“I’ve got my guitar, my mandolin and my banjo. That’s it.”
The tour will also take her to Eulo, Ipswich, Moura, Blackwater, Dysart, Mackay and Barcaldine.
“It’s a true country tour,” she says. “That’s what I wanted to achieve. Everyone visits the larger centres. I wanted to get to places where the real country music scenes are. ”
Earlier this year Jess performed at the Tamworth Country Music Festival with her two bands, her regular group The Silver Spurs and a trio side-project, The Hickory Sisters.
In Kingaroy, she will be performing songs from her Tamworth gigs, as well as from a new album which she aims to record later this year.
Jess Holland will be appearing at the Commercial Hotel in Kingaroy on Saturday, June 22.
