Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie is inviting small retailers to have their say on changes to the Retail Shop Leases Act 1994.
Mr Bleijie today released a discussion paper as part of the statutory review of the Act which outlined options put forward by the retail sector during consultations.
“The Act provides important protections to small retailers whose bargaining power may be outweighed by large shopping centre landlords,” Mr Bleijie said.
Mr Bleijie said the State Government was “committed to protecting the interests of small retail tenants” but at the same time was committed to cutting red-tape affecting Queensland business.
“I am releasing this paper to provide further opportunity for people to provide input to the review. The feedback we receive will inform any future changes to the Act.”
A reference group of key tenant, landlord and other retail leasing groups will also be established to assist the government in deciding its position on appropriate amendments to the Act.

The closing date for submissions is July 3, 2013.
