Councillors, business owners and residents have registered to help clean up South Burnett farms this Sunday (May 19) for “Clean Up South Burnett Farms Day”.
The day was originally suggested as a replacement for Clean Up Australia Day (March 3) which was cancelled this year due to heavy rain.
Clean Up South Burnett Frams Day will start at 7:00am on Sunday and will be followed by a barbecue at the Wooroolin Hotel to thank anyone who volunteers.
Residents who would like to lend a hand should contact the South Burnett Regional Council today on (07) 4189-9100.
“Our farmers need our help and this Sunday is a great opportunity for people to give them a hand. We still have farmers struggling from the three flood events we had earlier this year,” Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said.
“For some primary producers they have had to fix their fences four times in the last two years.”
Natural Resources and Parks spokesperson (and local grazier) Cr Kathy Duff said working with farmers was one of life’s most rewarding experiences.
“I would encourage anyone considering volunteering to give it a go this Sunday,” she said.
