Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington has announced that seven sporting clubs in the South Burnett will share in more than $117,000 to help them recover from this year’s flood disaster.

Mrs Frecklington said this was one of the State Government’s largest ever sport relief programs and would be a great benefit to help the clubs get back to on their feet.

The following clubs will receive funding:

  • Nanango Rugby League Football Club
  • South Burnett Junior Motorcycle Club
  • Nanango Sporting Association
  • Kingaroy Golf Club
  • Nanango Bowls Club
  • Nanango & District Netball Association
  • South Burnett Junior Rugby League

“Queensland has seen more than its share of natural disasters recently and although the first focus is to help those whose homes and businesses have been affected, it’s also important to recognise our invaluable community organisations,” Mrs Frecklington said.

“The response to the Sport and Recreation Disaster Recovery Program has been overwhelming and highlights the destruction caused by the heavy rain and flooding following ex-Tropical Cyclone Oswald earlier this year.

“Sport and recreation clubs were able to apply for up to $25,000 in Government funding to go toward replacing equipment and facilities destroyed by natural disasters.

“The funding will go a long way towards helping these clubs rebuild, including replacing equipment and repairing fields, fences, tennis courts, horse jumps and drainage systems.”
