Nanango State High School has won one of 10 awards presented to schools in the Darling Downs South West region today as part of State Education Week.
Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek congratulated the regional winners of the Showcase Awards for Excellence in Schools, which are the State Government’s highest accolade for educational programs in State schools.
Nanango SHS received the QSuper Showcase Award for Excellence in the Senior Years for its program, “Cementing The Pathway”.
“Statewide there are 74 regional winners of the Queensland Government’s most prestigious awards, recognising schools that are significantly improving learning outcomes for students,” Mr Langbroek said.
“The awards are particularly significant this year, as we begin introducing the Australian Curriculum while continuing to focus on building strong literacy and numeracy skills.
“The quality of this year’s submissions shows that Queensland State schools are continuing their efforts to provide innovative teaching and learning practices for our youngest citizens.”
This is the first stage of the awards program, which is followed by the selection of 21 regional finalists in July.
“Seven state award winners will be celebrated at the Showcase Awards Gala Dinner in October,” Mr Langbroek said.
“Regional winners will each receive a $1000 development grant to boost their school’s programs.”
Mr Langbroek said State finalists would receive a further $5000 each in grants, with the winners receiving a further $20,000 in development grants.
