The Queensland State Government announced today it has created a $150,000 fund so that flood-affected areas can reschedule events that had to be cancelled because of the 2013 floods.
Tourism Minister Jann Stuckey launched the TEQ 2013 Events Flood Assistance Program (EFAP) while visiting Bundaberg today.
“The Newman Government recognises the importance of regional events in supporting Queensland’s tourism industry, local businesses and jobs,” Ms Stuckey said.
“The 2013 Events Flood Assistance Program will make available financial assistance to events that have suffered or been cancelled as a result of recent flooding.
“We have created a one-off, $150,000 fund so events can apply for support to help with specific expenses.
“Events, particularly in smaller communities, are vital to the local economy and we want to make sure they can go ahead as planned, or are re-staged.”
The EFAP is available for events held between 1 June 2013 and 29 September 2013.
Events must be held in a council area declared as flood affected by the Natural Disaster Relief Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA) since January 2013. The South Burnett is an NDRRA area.
Funding received under the EFAP can be used for a range of expenses including:
- Marketing costs associated with the event to increase awareness and drive visitation
- The engagement of short-term, specialised personnel to develop or market the event or to replace personnel no longer involved due to flood events
- Hire pf temporary infrastructure which will improve access, visitor experience or safety of the event including temporary toilets, fencing, and staging.
