Blackbutt Kindy students Tyson Saunders, Kirsten Ruhl and Lacey Stretton look forward to welcoming new children to the kindergarten

April 9, 2013

The Blackbutt Kindergarten is set for a major overhaul after receiving a $193,000 grant for building extensions, a bathroom upgrade and landscaping.

The renovations will allow the kindergarten to expand its capacity from 16 to 22 children.

Director Katy Gibson said the kindergarten was thrilled to be able to improve their indoor and outdoor facilities.

“This kindergarten has been operating since 1970 and now thanks to these renovations it will be able to continue for a lot longer,” she said.

“There will be more space and resources for the children to learn through play as they begin to develop their learning skills.

“It’s fantastic that we will be able to allow more Blackbutt families to give their children the best start to their education.”

Construction will begin in the June-July school holiday period.

The team from C&K Blackbutt Kindergarten will also be participating in the annual Blackbutt Show on April 27.

Katy said they would hold a fundraising raffle, with prizes donated by a number of local businesses.

Proceeds will go towards new furniture for the extra six children the kindergarten will accommodate after the renovations.

The Renovation and Refurbishment grant was jointly funded by the State and Federal governments.
