There’s a big weekend of sport coming up with all four senior footy codes now back up and running for 2013.

CANCELLED (see below): In Round 1 of the South Burnett Rugby League A Grade competition, Kingaroy will take on Blackbutt, and Cherbourg will play Wondai, in a double-header at TJ O’Neill Oval in Kingaroy on Saturday (Nanango has the bye).

This year’s competition has been structured so that every weekend there will be an A Grade double-header played at alternating grounds.

UPDATE April 5: Kingaroy Red Ants have withdrawn their senior team from the Rugby League competition. The first round of the competition will now be played at Wondai Sportsground with a double header … Blackbutt v Nanango; and Cherbourg v Wondai.

The South Burnett Saints AFL team will be making their debut in Round 1 of Darling Downs competition, playing an away game against Lockyer Valley at Gatton Showgrounds on Saturday.

This will be the Saints first official match after playing two trial games in recent weeks. Their first home game will be against Goondiwindi at Lyle Vidler Oval on April 20.

The South Burnett Thrashers will be playing their Round 1 game in the Downs Rugby B Grade competition at Goondiwindi. Their first home match won’t be until Round 4 on April 27.

All the Thrashers home games this season will be played at St Mary’s Oval in Kingaroy.

South Burnett Football is ahead of the rest of the codes … the region’s senior soccer players have already played Round 1 of their competition.

But they’ve got a weekend off this week … Round 2 will be played on Saturday, April 13.

However, Gunners will be playing Gympie in a “friendly” at the Tom Alford grounds in Kingaroy on Saturday from 4:00pm.

Next weekend, Gunners will take on Nanango in Kingaroy and Barambah will play Wests in Murgon.

Junior soccer starts on Saturday, April 20, in Nanango.
