March 19, 2013

by Doug Hutcheson

The Kingaroy Writers Association held a workshop today; we had 12 members present.

The morning started with the presentation of our epigrams and unusual words for the day, including such gems as “borborygmi”, “vinculum” and “lenitive”.

We started reading our homework, breaking for smoko at 10:30am.

After smoko, John Coborn gave a fascinating presentation on his background and the pitfalls and pleasures of having had published about 100 books. He has written on topics such as snakes, frogs, goldfish and many others.

This talk was warmly received – thank you, John. We finished the meeting by presenting the remaining homework stories.

Our next meeting is on Tuesday, April 2. Homework for that meeting is to write about 1000 words on the topic “The Big Wet”, to invent an epigram about “History” and to find an unusual word and its meaning.

We are looking for both volunteers and suggestions for workshops in 2013.

The Kingaroy Writers Association meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month, at the Uniting Church Hall, corner Alford and Youngman streets, Kingaroy.

Meetings start at 9:30am and visitors are warmly welcomed.
