Kingaroy Police are urging residents to make sure they secure their homes and sheds, especially if they’re planning to go away this Easter.
Speaking on Radio 4SB this morning, Kingaroy Officer-in-Charge Snr-Sgt Duane Frank said that over the past few weeks police had dealt with a number of youth offenders who were carrying out “opportunistic” break-ins around town.
“They are walking around the streets late at night, at weekends and during the day, walking up driveways and boldly going up to the back doors of houses,” Snr-Sgt Frank said.
He said unfortunately a number of the homes and sheds had been left unlocked, and the offenders had simply walked in and stolen items of property.
Snr-Sgt Frank also urged the community to keep an eye out for anything that looks a bit strange or “out of place” to help the police catch drug dealers.
He said a number of people had been charged over the past few weeks with serious offences including producing and supplying dangerous drugs; some of these charges had resulted after tip-offs to police.
“Police rely heavily on information received from the community,” Snr-Sgt Frank said.
“We are encouraging people if they are aware something is going on or if they think something is a bit strange or out of place, to contact police, either directly in person or by phone or they can ring CrimeStoppers on 1800-333-000,” he said.
