Cherbourg’s Junior Police Rangers yesterday put their heads together and raised “$1100 and counting” for the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave.

Some of the children were “brave and shaved”, one had her hair trimmed to a bob, and the rest “coloured for a cure”.

Not only was the day – held outside the UsMob Radio studios at Cherbourg – a great fundraiser for cancer, it also provided support and encouragement for respected local teacher Eric Law who has recently completed a course of chemotherapy for cancer.

Eric’s bald head was a reminder to all the children exactly why they were raising money.

The 18 children are all Year 5-7 students at St Joseph’s Primary School at Murgon.

Cherbourg Police Rangers co-ordinator Louise Thompson said she would like to thank Rangers Afternoon Co-Ordinator Mrs Karen Bond and Uncle Eric and Aunty Shirley Law for all their hard work in organising the event as well as UsMob Radio, the Murgon Fruit Mart, Mercy Family Services and Gina Oberle from “Original Hair by Gina” who helped to make the day a success.
