Police from Gympie, the South Burnett, and the Kingaroy Stock Squad will be patrolling Crown and freehold land for the next two months, targeting people trespassing for the purpose of hunting deer and other feral animals.
A police spokesman said hunters must be aware of their obligations with obtaining permission to enter freehold land.
They should also know there is no authority available giving them access to hunt on Crown land (ie. State Forestry land or National Parks.)
“People will be stopped and if found committing offences may have their rifles/bows and any other equipment (including vehicles) seized by police,” the spokesman said.
“It is an offence to hunt animals without first having the necessary permission from the landowners.
“Hunters are encouraged to have written permission by the landholder giving them permission to be on their country to hunt feral animals.
“Both rifle and bow hunters need to be fully aware of their obligations with the safe carriage and use of weapons at all times.”
