A 62-year-old woman has been airlifted to a Brisbane hospital in a serious condition after a collision on the Bunya Highway near the intersection of Taylors Road and Meiers Road in Kingaroy this morning.

A police spokesman said one vehicle was waiting to turn right on the highway when the other vehicle, a Mazda sedan, apparently struck it from behind about 7:40am.

The female driver of the second vehicle was trapped for some time while emergency services personnel worked to free her from the wreck.

During that time she received ongoing treatment from the AGL Action Rescue Helicopter’s flight doctor and flight paramedic.

Once free, the woman was stabilised and airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a serious condition with hip and leg injuries and possible internal injuries.

The 36-year-old female driver and her child from the other vehicle, a Toyota Prado, were taken to Kingaroy Hospital as a precaution.
