There’s a number of special events planned around the South Burnett this year to mark International Women’s Day (March 8).

The region’s council libraries are hosting special guest speakers on Friday:
- Kingaroy – 10:00am – Rhonda Hull, successful local businesswoman who has been involved in the South Burnett community for many years
- Nanango – 10:00am – Elvie Templeton-Ditchburn, the first female District Governor for Q4 – Lions International and Daun Clapperton, a local historian who has extensively travelled both overseas and in Australia
- Blackbutt – 10:00am – Liz Caffery, a local author and historian and winner of the South Burnett Cultural Award for 2013
- Wondai – 10:00am – Louise Cheer, South Burnett Times journalist
- Proston – 10:00am – Margaret Westerman, speaking of her duties / responsibilities and experiences as a ship’s radio officer; in 1971 she was only the second female licensed ship’s radio operator on the Australian Eastern seaboard, and Carol Punch, a visiting Hervey Bay artist

The Kingaroy Quota Club is holding a dinner with well-known bush author Sandy Thorne at Kingaroy RSL.

Kumbia Kindy’s International Women’s Day Luncheon will be held on March 15.
